The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a community service program launched by the Government of
India
to develop the personality and social responsibility of students through voluntary community
service.
At Narayana College of Nursing, the NSS unit plays an active role in promoting social welfare,
health
awareness, and community development activities, encouraging students to contribute towards the
betterment of society while enhancing their leadership and organizational skills.
Aims of NSS
• To develop a sense of social responsibility among
students.
• To
encourage
students to actively participate in community service.
• To promote awareness on social,
health, and environmental issues.
• To foster leadership qualities and teamwork among
students.
• To bridge the gap between the campus and the
community.
Motto
The
NSS
motto is “Not Me, But You,” symbolizing the essence of democratic living and the
necessity
of selfless service. This motto aligns with the nursing profession's core values, emphasizing the
role
of nurses as compassionate caregivers dedicated to the well-being of others.
Activities of NSS
at
Narayana College of Nursing
• Organizing health awareness rallies and camps.
•
Conducting blood donation drives.
• Observing national and international health
days.
• Participating in cleanliness drives (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan).
•
Organizing
seminars, workshops, and outreach programs.
• Promoting literacy, hygiene, and
environmental
sustainability in nearby communities.
Objectives of NSS
1. To understand the community in
which the students work.
2. To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve
students in problem-solving.
3. To develop a sense of social responsibility among
students.
4. To utilize students’ knowledge and skills in finding practical solutions to
individual and community problems.
5. To develop competence required for group-living and
sharing
responsibilities.
6. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
7. To
practice national integration and social harmony.
8. To develop the capacity to meet
emergencies
and natural disasters.
9. To encourage students to actively participate in community service and
nation-building activities.
